Respect for and Collaboration with People with Disabilities
Churches are familiar with the accessibility legislation and the importance of ensuring that all people are able to access our buildings. While it is important to welcome those with disabilities into our communities, to what extent do we also consider the gifts brought by those who have disabilities and the challenges they face regularly?
The Windsor area boasts a significant number of programs and opportunities for people with disabilities including the largest accessible park in Ontario, a comprehensive education program for children, a variety of group housing options allowing some level of independence and employment opportunities. Drawing from these resources, this immersion will provide insights into the lived realities of people with disabilities, the ways in which these individuals are able to share their gifts, the challenges they regularly confront and the opportunities this provides for our Churches.
